TikTok is the gorilla in the social media marketing room right now.
It was the most downloaded app of 2021, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down.
In advance of this month’s Park City Marketing Club meeting on TikTok Marketing, here are 12 staggering TikTok stats, as well as one big privacy question about the red hot app.
TikTok had 656 million downloads in 2021. Instagram came in second place with 545 million downloads last year.
TikTok is the sixth most-used social platform in the world, ranking just behind Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, and WeChat.
TikTok has surpassed Instagram for popularity among Gen Z users (born between 1997 and 2012).
Worldwide, TikTok’s user base is 57% female. That figure rises to 61% for TikTok users in the US.
TikTok is the most engaging of all social media apps, with an average user session of 10.85 minutes.
The majority of people use TikTok to find funny/entertaining content.
Music is a big part of TikTok. 75% of TikTok users say they discover new songs on the app, and 73% of users associate specific songs with TikTok.
Finance TikTok grew by 255% in 2021.
TikTok is the top app for consumer spend.
24% of marketers considered TikTok effective for reaching their business goals, compared to just 3% in the previous year— a 700% increase.
Partnering with creators boosts view-through rates by 193%.
67% of users say TikTok inspires them to shop— even when they weren’t planning to do so.
